Re-thinking the archives. Is it possible to build a creative approach based on the archives?

Today we want to zoom in on one of the lines of the Panoràmic Festival that we like the most, the “Panoràmic FILE”.

Panoràmic FILE

Today we want to zoom in on one of the lines of the Panoràmic Festival that we like the most, the “Panoràmic FILE”. A proposal that was born in 2021 created by Laia Casanova and Mercè Alsina, and that allows us to intertwine archives and artistic practice. Starting from the basis of old or historical photography, the artists shake the documentary background and present a contemporary interpretation, which is, at the same time, a new material for the archive itself. In previous editions we have had artistic interventions by Eva Marín, Paula Bruna, Ignasi Prat, Gadea Burgaz, Laura Torres, Pilar Rosado, Pere Llobera, Lurdes R. Basolí, Núria Nia, and Àlvar Calvet among others.

This year the facilities participating in this dialogue are: the Municipal Archive of Granollers intervened by Marta Ros, the photographic archive of the Centre Excursionista de Catalunya (CEC) in Barcelona, with the intervention of Enric Maurí; the Archive of Ethnography and Folklore of Catalonia (AEFC) in Barcelona where we will find work by Paula Artés, the Archive of the Casa de l’Ardiaca with work by Joan Pallé, and finally, moving to Terrassa, the Tobella Archive intervened by Ro Caminal.

Do not miss the video we’ve shared in our social media presenting a tour to some of the archives by the curator Mercè Alsina showing some details of this edition!

SAVE THE DATE!! A journey dedicated to heritage and archives: November 20th at the Casa de l’Ardiaca archive.

In the line of creation through the archives, the Panoràmic Festival in collaboration with the centers 3C Calce Culture Contemporain of Occitania and Casa Planas of Mallorca, we have promoted the proposal of experimentation and creation that has allowed us to open the doors to national creators to develop a project in residence between 3C Calce and also working with the material of the archive of Casa Planas. A creative process that ends up being shown at the festival.

In the last edition, under the call for “Rostres Nòmades” (Nomadic Faces), Fernando Colin Roque was the selected artist who materialized his “Experimento L.AURA.” a science fiction essay on the notion of truth in images and the cohabitation of humans with artificial intelligence.

Stay tuned, this September we will publish the new open call for residency between Casa Planas, 3C Calce and Panoràmic Festival.

“Experimento L.AURA” by Fernando Colin Roque within the project “Rostres Nòmades” (Nomadic Faces) that was presented at the Panoràmic 2023 Festival.

SAVE THE DATE!!! On Wednesday, November 20 the second edition of the conference dedicated to the archives and innovative projects arising from these re-readings of contemporary creation will take place. And we will count with Sara Callahan’s presence and participation.
