Nuria Güell’s work addresses the abuses of power and their consequences, particularly a power that has been largely associated with male identification. As this power loses recognition, it reveals the damage caused by its dominance, along with the exposure of structural sexism and the violence inherent in the cultural construction of gender. In The sexuality of the master, and drawing on the concept of agency, Güell invites individuals who identify with ‘new masculinity’ or ‘alternative masculinity’ to serve as guides for this exhibition.

Núria Güell

Núria Güell (Vidreres, 1981) is a Catalan artist whose work addresses the limits of legality and analyzes the practice of the institutions that govern us. The flirtation with the established powers or the privileges of the art world are some of the aspects on which she bases her artistic operations, which she develops as tactics that seek to change the established power relations.

Her artistic practice is characterized as a practice of confrontation, of questioning evidence and moral conventions. The artist defends the artistic practice as a politically necessary social practice: “I do not understand artistic practice as a cultural practice, but quite the opposite: I understand it as a socially and politically necessary practice in which the cultural and the established are brought into play”.
