GRANOLLERS — BARCELONA | 19.10—26.11.2023
Measure the face, read it and decipher it. The recent and controversial facial recognition systems are the latest expression of a long-cherished longing. At different times the search has had different objectives. Since the appearance of photography, temptation has been clothed in affectivity, in a scientific halo.
The graphic and artistic trail left by this search, often full of prejudices, is extraordinary. This legacy continues to inspire representations of the human face and body, as map, landscape, conflict, narrative and surface. This is a proposal to return to the face from contemporary photography and audiovisual, fundamental for the current possibilities for self-representation, but also for the technologies that have made the face itself a tool of control and recognition. Technology, surgical or digital, allows today to explore the mutability of a border, the face, which has been permanent until now.
If the past of the face as a visual motif is monumental , from Lombroso or Charcot to the cinematic foreground, the present is no less so. Devices (mobiles, webcams), programs (Deep Fake, AI) and practices continue to stress the expressive possibilities of the face and deploy new ways of understanding it.

Exhibitions
The exhibition program of the festival explores the theme of the festival through the work of catalan and international artists. A careful and diverse selection offers in each edition unique exhibitions of artists that allow us to reflect and learn about the concept that the festival proposes. Within the program we find the diversity of projects through the sections Panoràmic File, where creators/res are invited to revisit photographic archives to create an installation in public space, Panoràmic Review, where every year a figure or a movement is rediscovered that has been relevant in the audiovisual world, but is unknown to the general public, and the show Open Panoràmicwhich collects the preselected projects from the national call that each edition organizes the festival.
Projections
The screening program explores the theme of the festival through productions that use the audiovisual format to express themselves, from films, short films, mappings or video creations such as video essays or video art. Projections from all its variants is the part of programming that explores the moving image.
Educational program
The educational program of the Panoràmic Granollers festival is structured in two lines of activities aimed at primary school (middle and higher), secondary school and high school. It also offers a specific educational program for art baccalaureates and art, photography and film schools that is also structured in two types of activities.
OFF Panoràmic
This section aims to create a national network that reflects on the theme of the festival based on the programming of other centers or entities. It seeks to create a common space to talk about an issue from the image, and from the perspectives of the various cultural agents of the country.
