Fotofestiwal and the relevance of Łódź

Fotofestiwal, a clear reference in the framework of photography festivals in the center of Europe established in the Polish city of Łódź since 2001, kicked off on June 13.

The exclusivity of Łódź makes it a good ally from which to potentiate Fotofestiwal. Łódź has a powerful industrial fabric highlighted especially in the textile sector. Industries that have been rethought with new uses, but maintaining their aesthetic identity. The architectural result of this industrial past makes Łódź an unparalleled backdrop, and from which the festival takes as a form of inspiration for many of the themes of the exhibitions, audiovisual projections, and various artistic expressions that are presented throughout the festival.

In this cultural exchange between artists, curators, active agents in various cultural roles, programmers, amongst others, events such as the “Photo-Match” stand out, a very peculiar review of portfolios in which the aim is to put artists and curators on the same footing, facilitate contacts between participants and get to know the work of the artists presented.

Panoràmic’s incursion in the Photo-Match of Łódź

The Panoràmic team, through Laia Casanova, one of the three axes in the co-direction of the festival has participated in the Photo-Match presenting it in Poland thanks to the support of the Instituto Cervantes, and the organization of the Fotofestiwal itself. Along these days, and especially during the Photo-Match event, she introduced some of the artists who have participated in the Festival Panoràmic, the way in which it is planned, the lines on which it is based, also anticipating some details of this year’s edition. On the other hand, she has also been able to discover works by truly inspiring artists such as: Hubert Humka , Grzegorz Wełnicki , Mateusz Pecyna, Lavinia Parlamenti and Manfredi Pantanella, as well as enjoy some of the guided tours led by them, or even interview some of them. We’re back with lots of ideas… stay tuned!
