Error-horror
Roca Umbert Fàbrica de les Arts
La Tèrmica – Carrer d’Enric Prat de la Riba, 77
Hours
Artist Franc Aleu presents the results of more than three years of research and experimentation with flawed models and still-developing artificial intelligence tools. Building on this work, Aleu proposes an immersive experience that explores the poetic potential of AI-generated mistakes, turning their imperfections—glitches, censorship, and misinterpretations—into artistic material.
Alongside images and videos, the exhibition features a real-time video generation piece, in which visitors see themselves reflected as one of these imperfect, perhaps even monstrous, digital creatures—opening the door to an aesthetic and symbolic confrontation with their own reflection.
Franc Aleu (Barcelona, 1966) is a visual creator known for integrating light-based scenography and video projections into opera, dance, and theatre productions on an international scale. He has produced videomappings on iconic buildings, designed pavilions for exhibitions, and directed immersive events and films. Notable projects include El Somni with the Roca brothers, and the stage direction of Turandot at the Liceu in 2019.
Awarded the National Culture Prize in 2012 for his audiovisual contributions, Aleu has collaborated with companies such as La Fura dels Baus and with directors like Lluís Pasqual, Zubin Mehta, and Kirill Petrenko, on stages including the Liceu, La Scala in Milan, and the Teatro Real. With a visionary and multidisciplinary approach, he is currently exploring the creative possibilities of artificial intelligence and new immersive stage languages.
