Silence is Speaking is an intimate photography project that explains the life of Ace and A-zhan, two autistic siblings who communicate without words. They speak through drawing and body language, transforming their home into a canvas where the walls narrate stories and emotions.
Artist Chia Huang lived with them for six months. The result is a visual narrative woven from documentary photography, the brothers’ drawings, and family archives. The work reveals the power of nonverbal communication and the resilience against social pressures, celebrating creativity as a bridge that brings inner worlds together.
Chia Huang
Chia Huang is a visual artist whose work spans photography, painting, collage, and video. Her intimate practice introduces us to individuals living at the margins of society. Through a collaborative process, these protagonists become co-authors alongside Huang in the creation of the final work, which weaves together documentary photography and graphic material.
Her projects have been exhibited at leading institutions such as Les Rencontres d’Arles, Le Bal, Palais de Tokyo, Luma Arles, Maison Européenne de la Photographie, Taipei MoCA, Taipei Performing Arts Center, and the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. In 2024, she was awarded the Dior Photography and Visual Arts Award for Young Talents.
